Showcasing a progressive wood fuel supplier in Ireland

OK Wood Fuels – Over 50 Years of Innovation and Sustainability in Lismore, Co. Waterford, Ireland.

From a small family business to a successful leadership

OK Wood Fuels is based in Lismore, Co. Waterford, the company is a pioneering force in Ireland’s wood fuel industry. Established in 1974, the company has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality wood products, including wood fuel. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024, OK Wood Fuels continues to demonstrate excellence, customer focus and deep environmental commitment.

From its beginnings as a small family-run business, OK Wood Fuels has grown into one of Ireland’s most trusted suppliers of premium wood fuels. All firewood logs are sourced from responsibly managed forests, and the company has long championed renewable energy by helping both household and commercial customers reduce their carbon footprint.

Investing in technology and efficiency

In 2024, the company made significant investments in new technology, installing advanced wood-fired kilns and expanding its storage facilities. These modern kilns boost production capacity, improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions—all while producing consistently high-quality logs with carefully controlled moisture content for optimal burning performance. The increased efficiency also allows OK Wood Fuels to meet growing demand without compromising its sustainability standards.

To complement these upgrades, new storage and production sheds were constructed, providing improved space and climate-controlled conditions to protect firewood quality. This infrastructure investment supports the company’s forward-looking strategy to remain a leader in renewable heating, with innovation, reliability and sustainability at its core.

Looking into the future

As OK Wood Fuels marks more than half a century in business, it remains committed to expanding its products and services while maintaining the highest standards of environmental responsibility and customer satisfaction. With new technology now in place, the company is well positioned for continued growth and to play an even greater role in Ireland’s transition to a greener energy future.

This year, OK Fuels also hosted a site visit for the Irish Bioenergy Association (IrBEA) and the Wood Fuel Quality Assurance (WFQA) Scheme as part of a series of wood fuel drying workshops. The event was highly successful, attracting members, prospective members and industry stakeholders to explore practical drying methods, regulatory compliance and best practices in moisture-content management—an essential element in producing top-quality wood fuel.
