Třebíč: a long biomass tradition
The family-owned company TTS Energo has been a cornerstone of heating in Třebíč for over thirty years. Founded in 1994, the company has continually combined innovation with a commitment to environmental responsibility.
In 2001, TTS Energo began its transition toward renewable energy, focusing on biomass as a sustainable heat source. Today, it operates a unique district heating system that supplies most of Třebíč’s residents through four heating plants and more than 700 supply points. Its customers include schools, kindergartens, hospitals, industrial buildings, family homes, and apartment blocks, covering over 10,500 apartments in total.
More than 94% of the heat provided comes from biomass boilers using wood chips and straw, while the remaining 6% is generated by CHP and gas boilers. Thanks to stable, affordable pricing – among the lowest in the Czech Republic – and reliable service, the city’s hot water network continues to expand year after year.
The current CEO, Richard Horký Jr., son of founder Richard Horký Sr., continues to implement innovations at heating plants, whether by building photovoltaic power plants on the roofs of heating plants for their own consumption or by using nutrient-rich ash from biomass boilers in fertilizers in agriculture, thereby returning carbon to nature. His mission is to continue to provide the residents of Třebíč with affordable and sustainable heat for their homes in the future.
