Sustainability becomes a business requirement in Latvia
Over the past few years, sustainability expectations in the bioenergy sector have changed significantly, and today sustainability is becoming a business requirement.
While certification remains the foundation of responsible biomass sourcing, customers and financial institutions increasingly expect companies to demonstrate their performance through transparent data and measurable actions. To celebrate Latvia’s Bioenergy Day, we take a look at BONO Group’s efforts.
Sustainability Matters: BONO’s Approach
Latvia’s bioenergy sector has built a strong reputation on responsibly managed forests and certified supply chains. As market expectations continue to evolve, transparency and ESG reporting are becoming the next step in strengthening that reputation.
BONO Group sees this shift as an opportunity to continuously improve the way they operate. This year, they published their first Sustainability Report, bringing together their environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance into a single framework. It includes their first greenhouse gas inventory prepared in accordance with the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, a double materiality assessment and clearly defined priorities for the years ahead.
A Business Requirement
“For us, sustainability is a process of change management. It helps us make better decisions, strengthen cooperation with our partners and build long-term trust through greater transparency. We are determined, and armed with patience and perseverance, knowing that every improvement takes time. I am grateful to our team for their ability to identify opportunities for improvement, implement effective practices, and maintain the highest quality standards,” says Rihards Veide, Chairman of the Board of BONO ENERGY, BONO LOGISTICS and BONO TRADE.
As Europe’s bioenergy sector continues to evolve, BONO Group believes that responsible forest management, certified supply chains and transparent ESG reporting will go hand in hand in shaping its future.
