National Bioenergy Success Stories

2023 motto: Getting rid of fossil fuels

Bioenergy is a versatile and flexible solution and offers solutions to provide renewable heat, power and fuel. This means, that individual consumers can use bioenergy in form of for example wood pellets to heat their home or cities and towns can use it to power or heat public buildings like schools, community centres.

Also on industrial level, bioenergy is already successfully replacing fossil fuels in a wide range of processes and industry players are further investing in decarbonising and making their businesses more sustainable. On top of this, farmers are utilising residues from their farming activities to provide heat for their farms or nearby communities.

All these cases demonstrate how bioenergy has replaced fossil fuels and provided more energy security to those using this fuel. The list of successful examples is long and diverse. With the European Bioenergy Day campaign, we want to spread those stories. Each EU Member State has different energy needs and profits from bioenergy in an individual way.

The dates on each flag indicate the National Bioenergy Day – the day from which that country could run solely on Bioenergy for the rest of the year!

About the campaign

The European Bioenergy Day campaign is powered by Bioenergy Europe and relayed across Europe by both national and international partners supporting the view that bioenergy is more than a renewable energy source, it is also a reliable path that will lead Europe to achieve its renewable energy transition.
